10th International Scientific Conference CHILDREN AND LANGUAGES TODAY

Department of Croatian Studies/Department of English and German Studies

The year 2021 was declared the Year of Reading by the Government of the Republic of Croatia in accord with the Action Plan of the National Reading Support Strategy, whose goal is to encourage the development of reading culture. To honour this initiative, the Department of Croatian Studies and the Department of English and German Studies of the Faculty of Education are organising their 10th anniversary conference Children and Languages Today with the conference theme Reading in Contemporary Contexts. The conference Children and Languages Today, whose main focus since it was first organised twenty years ago has been children and language development, aims to explore different ways in which reading takes place today as well as a variety of factors that impact the development of reading and early literacy skills in contemporary settings. The National Reading Support Strategy, among others, encourages scientific research which could provide new insights into ways to support reading, improve the systematic distribution of information, and encourage the intersectoral cooperation of institutional and out-of-institutional stakeholders in the area of reading support. For this reason, we would like to contribute to the ongoing academic efforts by inviting scholarly contributions to the important topic of the role of reading in children’s lives in the digital era.
